More about the Turkish Language
History of Turkish
The Turkish language has evolved through time and as the earliest inscriptions of the Old Turkic language date back to AD 735, there have been changes to Turkish throughout the years. For a long period of time, the vast majority of the Turkish population did not even understand the adopted "e;official"e; language of Ottoman Turkish (from 1299 to 1922) as this was a blend of Arabic, Turkish and Persian. Modern Turkish was "e;born"e; when the Turkish language association was formed and have since established the accepted modern language.
Native Speakers
It is estimated that there are presently over 63 million native Turkish speakers world-wide, the majority of whom live in Turkey.
Turkish Writing
Based on the Latin alphabet (as many other languages), written Turkish is made up of 29 letters, 7 of these that have been modified from the standard Latin alphabet, representing modern Turkish pronunciation.
